OLAP AND A SHOW

AUSTIN, TX - April 2, 2001

The first BIX seminar of 2001 was held in Austin on April 2nd. The seminar presented OLAP solutions in the context of a show. Daman's director of OLAP solutions, Norman Comstock explained the concept: "An effective OLAP solution must be not only useful, but also engaging, like a good show. The design and functionality must be such that the end user wants to go back and use it again and again, the same way you would want to see a good show more than once."

Comstock was be joined by Shelly Crawford of ProClarity, along with John H. Miller, Program Manager, SQL Server - Business Intelligence Practices Team for Microsoft.

The program was broken down into show-like component parts: Microsoft's Miller discussed the analysis services cast: ROLAP, MOLAP and HOLAP; ProClarity focused on the design studio, demonstrating techniques for presenting data with higher impact; and Comstock took on the role of producer/director, discussing how successful planning and direction leads to better presentation.

All three speakers' presentations are available for download in PDF format:

Norman Comstock - OLAP & A Show: Designing Highly Effective OLAP Solutions (497K)

Shelly Crawford - Knosys and the ProClarity Platform (614K)

John Miller - An Introduction to SQL Server 2000 Analysis Services (879K)
